Winter sports have returned! Living in Denver, Colorado means being just a drive away from some of the greatest ski resorts in the United States. Whether you’re looking to head up to the mountains for the day or for the weekend, the options are endless when you live at Velo. We’ve conjured up a list of amazing ski resorts in our area and listed them from closest to furthest from our community!
Echo Mountain is the closest ski resort to our community, 53 minutes away, making it perfect for a day trip! Not only is it close, but it’s also affordable. If you are looking to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time, Echo Mountain was made for you! If you aren’t into skiing or snowboarding, head to Echo Mountain to go tubing.
Just 53 miles west of Denver and an hour and 2 minutes from our Velo community, you’ll find Loveland Ski Area. Loveland Ski Area has 1,800 acres of remarkable terrain, free snowcat skiing along the Continental Divide, and an innovative lesson program for those who are just starting out.
Eldora provides you with a full circle experience just an hour and 14 minutes away from skiing and snowboarding, to elevated eats, shopping, and outdoor recreation such as Jenny Creek Trail and Årestua Hut. If you are new to skiing or snowboarding, they also have lessons available!
An hour and 16 minutes from our community you will find Arapahoe Basin! The Arapahoe Basin opened in December of 1946 and has undergone a few expansions and renovations since. They offer skiing and snowboarding, uphill access, snowshoe tours, and terrain parks.
At Winter Park Resort, there is everything to do and then some an hour and 20 minutes away. They don’t just have your typical skiing, snowboarding, and lessons for both. They have lodging, tubing, snowcat tours, uphill tours, snowshoe tours, and ski bike tours! A great place to go for the seasoned skier, but also someone that wants a variety of options.
Just an hour and 24 minutes from our community, you’ll find Copper Mountain. Copper Mountain not only has skiing and snowboarding but the Rocky Mountain Coaster where you can cruise the Ten Mile Range on one of North America’s longest alpine coasters. On top of that, Copper Mountain offers uphill, tubing and The Barn which is an action sports playground and practice facility.
Also an hour and 24 minutes away is Keystone Resort! Keystone offers top-notch skiing and snowboarding terrain, lessons, rentals, and also has lodging if you would like to book a longer stay.
While we only listed ski resorts that are under an hour and 30 minutes away from our community, there are more amazing resorts that you need to visit! Breckenridge Ski Resort, Beaver Creek Resort, Vail Mountain Resort, and Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort are all top-tier ski resorts that would be great to visit for the day or extended periods of time. No matter where you go, getting out on the mountain with the fresh Colorado air is the best part.
